We sat down with Josie Loren, Mitchel Musso and Tiffany Thorton on the set of Hatching Pete and talked about her character, what it was like to kiss Jason Dolley, her most embarrassing on set moment, and more!
CelebChatters: Can you tell us about your character in Hatching Pete?
Josie: Her name is Angela Morrissey and she's the new girl at school. She's cute, popular, and nice. She doesn't have an ego on her. She's not snobby. Even though she's popular -- she's on the cheerleading squad -- she's really nice to the people around her who aren't in her clique, like Pete.
Tiffany: I play Jamie Wynn, the head cheerleader. She has a crush on Poole because he's the chicken and becomes really funny. She thinks she has to be with the funny person who's popular. She starts flirting with Poole in class and the next thing you know, they're pretty much together.
Mitchel: My character is Cleatus Poole. He's kind of nerdy-- just not popular. Poole is the school mascot, and he's awful. Then the school gets a new chicken suit, and he gets allergic to the suit. He asks his friend Pete to take over for him, and Pete's amazing. Poole gets all the fame out of it, and Pete's still a nerd.
CelebChatters: How do you personally compare to your character?
Josie: I was always raised not to judge people by their cover, and I do a really good job at that. I have all sorts of friends and give everyone a fair chance. You don't really get to know a person until you sit down and actually talk to them. Their outside doesn't say anything about who they are.
CelebChatters: What was your favorite scene to film?
Tiffany: I have two. My first is when we get to do the stunt scene, where we're up in the air. I have dreams about stunting because I haven't done it in so long. To be able to do that now is so much fun because I get to live out my dream. It was scary because you're up there, and you have to wobble around and look like you're falling. There's another scene where we're in the science room and I'm sitting next to Jason's character, Pete, and Mitchel comes in the room. Everyone's talking about the chicken. Jason is sitting next to me, and Jamie needs Pete to move. So I pick up his books, put them in his lap, and push him out. Then Poole comes in and sits next to me, and I flirt with him. There's a part where I hit him on the end of his nose with my eraser on my pencil. I was just joking around and did it once, and our director was like, "I like that," and I was like, "Okay, I'll keep flirting with an eraser!" It was a cute scene because I push Pete out of the way completely and then clear the space for Poole.
Mitchel: My favorites are whenever it's just Jason and I because they're so natural and fun. Also, the scene in the workshop when they're building the float. We have this big walking scene, and the whole scene is shot in one take. It was awesome.
Josie: My favorite scene to film was the kissing scene and what led up to it. We [the cheerleaders] were in a pyramid, and the pyramid collapses, and I end up falling on top of Jason.
CelebChatters: What was it like kissing Jason?
Josie: Jason made me feel so comfortable, because he's such a nice guy.
CelebChatters: Which cast members have you bonded with the most?
Tiffany: Mitchel Musso and Jason Dolley are a joy to work with. They're sweethearts and gentlemen. They're so much fun and really make it an enjoyable experience. Josie Lopez is a sweetheart. She's from Florida, and I'm from Texas, so we have that back home thing going on. I've known her for a while, and she's amazingly talented. The person I bonded with most is Madison Riley who plays Camie, Mitchel Musso's sister. She is seriously the most hilarious person.
CelebChatters: What was the funniest scene to film?
Mitchel: Anything with Brian Stepanek who plays Arwin on The Suite Life. He improvs the whole time, and it's hard to keep a straight face. He's great.
CelebChatters: Did you have any embarrassing moments on set?
Josie: We were cheering and we had our pom poms behind us -- we do this cheer where we put our feet back to kick and jump into the kick, and I slipped on my pom pom and completely fell. The girls started cracking up!
CelebChatters: What was it like filming in a real high school with kids everywhere?
Tiffany: At first nobody really knew who we were, so they were a little confused. Now they've caught on. One day when we were shooting, the girls went nuts over Jason and Mitchel. I walked out of the set and towards our chair rack -- where they have our names on the chairs -- and there were girls out there taking pictures of Jason's chair. They just wait out there and are like, "They're coming back from lunch soon!" They're big fans. I think that's adorable!
